Dr. Megan E. Shaal joined CDTC in March 2022 and serves as Forensic Psychologist, conducting forensic evaluations.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and law & society from Purdue University and her Doctor of Psychology in clinical forensic psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Her doctoral dissertation, "Cross-Validation of the RRASOR, the SSPI, and the Static-99 With Indiana Sex Offenders," received an American Academy of Forensic Psychology Dissertation Award in 2012–2013.
She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo, Colorado's primary forensic hospital, where she conducted competency evaluations and competency restoration. Her postdoctoral fellowship in forensic psychology at The Chicago School Forensic Center included fitness to stand trial evaluations and outpatient fitness restoration for the state of Illinois, along with civil evaluations of parental capacity, domestic relations, and guardianship.
Before joining CDTC, Dr. Shaal spent 6.5 years as supervising psychologist at the Isaac Ray Treatment Center at Logansport State Hospital, a maximum security forensic inpatient facility in Indiana. She supervised the psychology staff, oversaw psychological treatment and programming, and conducted evaluations of competence to stand trial and general and sexual violence risk.
She published a book chapter on competency to stand trial and co-edited a book on anxiety and stress. She has specialized in transgender-affirming care for individuals involved with the legal system, and she has taught graduate courses in mental health law and outpatient competency restoration.
Dr. Shaal is a licensed psychologist in Ohio and Indiana and holds a PSYPACT interjurisdictional certificate to practice telepsychology.
